The founding of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) from the merger of the National Chamber of Malayan Manufacturers and the Malayan Manufacturers' Association.
First Annual General Meeting of FMM. Tan Sri Nik Ahmad Kamil of Rothmans of Pall Mall (M) Berhad was elected as President of FMM.
Regional Committees set up in Johor, Perak, Penang, which led to the formation of Branches in the respective states.
The First FMM Directory was published.
The Decade of Export-Oriented Industrialisation
First FMM "Made in Malaysia" trade fair at Stadium Negara attended by more than 400,000 visitors.
New FMM logo symbolising the wealth of the country and the strength of the manufacturing sector was launched.
FMM participated in the inaugural meeting of ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Presented recommendations on Export Development in the country to the Committee on Foreign Trade and Investment (COFTI).
Representatives from FMM and the Government formed the Consultative Committee on Industry, chaired by the late Tun Hussein Onn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry, Malaysia.
Played a leading role in the formation of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaya (NCCIM).
Setting up of FMM Malacca Branch.
First FMM Trade Mission to Europe and Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo.
Formation of Shah Alam SubCommittee, the predecessor of FMM Selangor Branch.
FMM Head Office moved to Bangunan Angkasa Raya, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur
As a result of FMM's recommendation, major amendments of the Industrial Coordination Act were made by the Government, including the proposal to establish the Industrial Advisory Council.
FMM Trade Fair, which was renamed Expo, was staged at the Changkat Pavilion, themed "Focus on Quality".
Instituted the FMM Award for New and Improved Product Development, and FMM Award for Export Achievement to encourage members to strive for manufacturing excellence and innovation.
The Era of Heavy Industries, Economic Liberalisation and Privatisation
FMM published its first quarterly newsletter, "Berita FMM".
FMM and the Ministry of Trade and Industry organised the first joint Trade Mission to the People's Republic of China.
FMM entrusted by Malaysian Government to issue and endorse Certificate of Origin.
Trade Mission to Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, in line with the Government's "Look East" Policy.
FMM Trade Fair in 1983 was internationalised and renamed "Expo International".
Inaugural meeting between FMM and Singapore Manufacturers Association (SMA) to forge closer links between the two organisations.
Trade Mission to the USA.
Launched "FMM Bulletin" to keep members abreast of industrial and economic news and development.
Successfully organised the first Expo Perak '84, at Indera Mulia Stadium, Ipoh and officiated by His Majesty Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan to promote products and services of Perak State.
Launched "FMM Forum", an annual economic and business journal.
Launched "The Malaysian Exporter", an annual publication featuring Malaysian products and services to promote the export of Made-in-Malaysia products.
FMM Head Office relocated to a larger premise at Wisma Sime Darby, Kuala Lumpur.
Organised a nine-day "Buy Malaysian Fair" at Stadium Negara, to promote Malaysian-Made products.
Expo International '86 staged with participants from ten countries.
FMM successfully staged the International Consumers' Fair '87.
Economic Cooperation Agreement signed between FMM and the China Council for Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Sub-Council.
Launched the first National Manufacturers' Conference with the theme “Enhancing Competitiveness of the Malaysian Manufacturing Sector”.
Signed MOU with the Confederation of the Italian Industry.
FMM managed Malaysia's EAN system which has evolved into GS1 system today.
Malaysia International Fair (MIF) '88 was given recognition by the Government as the official international trade fair of Malaysia.
Signed MOU with the Federation of German Industries to facilitate and promote greener interaction between the two organisations.
Signed Economic Cooperation Agreement with the Canadian Manufacturers Association.
Signed Economic Cooperation Agreement with the Confederation of Engineering Industry, India.
Signed MOU with the Chinese National Federation of Industries, Taiwan.
Introduced the FMM Award on Energy Conservation and Management.
MIF '89 staged with participation by 14 countries.
Introduced a Public and Product Liability Insurance Scheme exclusively for Members, which encompassed insurance coverage for public and product liability and product recall.
