Who we are

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has been the voice of the Malaysian manufacturing sector since 1968. Representing over 13,000 member companies (4,100 direct and 8,900 indirect) from the manufacturing supply chain, FMM is actively engaged with government and its key agencies at Federal, State and local levels. FMM is also well-linked with international organisations, Malaysian businesses and civil society. Apart from benefitting from FMM's advocacy, FMM members enjoy value-add services, including training, business networking and trade opportunities as well as regular information updates.

The manufacturing sector has been a key pillar of the Malaysia economy.

In 2022, it contributed more than 20 percent of Malaysia's GDP. The growth prospects of the manufacturing sector remain strong, and smart manufacturing, factory automation and advanced manufacturing are amongst the important areas that Malaysia's should focus in the next 5 years.

  • 1968

    • JULY 02

      The founding of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) from the merger of the National Chamber of Malayan Manufacturers and the Malayan Manufacturers' Association.

      FMM's first office was located at the Standard Chartered Bank building in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
    • NOVEMBER 14

      First Annual General Meeting of FMM. Tan Sri Nik Ahmad Kamil of Rothmans of Pall Mall (M) Berhad was elected as President of FMM.

  • 1969

    • DECEMBER 26

      Regional Committees set up in Johor, Perak, Penang, which led to the formation of Branches in the respective states.

      The First FMM Directory was published.

  • 1971

    • APRIL 3-18

      First FMM "Made in Malaysia" trade fair at Stadium Negara attended by more than 400,000 visitors.
